Two seconds after I got this shot, he was pronking up the path, trying to entice a greyhound and a Leonberger to play with him. They looked at him warily and plodded on after their human. Undeterred, Rusty continued to have a good time all by himself.
I had taken the camera on our walk because although the temperature was still below freezing, the sun had come out, and I was hoping for a photo op. I thought maybe I could get close enough to the storks who’ve been hanging out in what we call the Back 40 to get some good pictures. What I got instead was completely unexpected and wonderful.
Wood ducks, three males and a female! Not native to The Netherlands, although apparently some have escaped from parks and zoos in Great Britain and here. Aren’t they amazing? That really made my day.

Beautiful! I’ve borrowed the first shot to use as my desktop wallpaper.
